GTBank Partners Ria Money Transfer to Boost Remittances

Kampala, Uganda - November 1st, 2018

Guaranty Trust Bank (Uganda) Limited, has entered a partnership with Ria Money Transfer Service, one of the largest remittance companies in the world to offer Ria remittance service to customers and non-customers across its branch network. In essence, customers and non-customers can now walk into any GTBank branch and receive or send money using the Ria remittance channel.

GTBank is honoured to join other financial institutions offering Ria Money remittance service in Uganda as it represents a good complement to the existing remittance service in the bank and hence, an enhancement to the convenience available to Uganda public through GTBank.

In line with the bank’s tradition of excellent service, remittance beneficiaries of Ria money transfer service can collect their funds from GTBank in multiple ways. First, they can choose the traditional approach, that is, collect cash across the counters. If they are account holders in GTBank, they can choose to have the remittance proceeds credited to their accounts in GTBank. More conveniently, beneficiaries could choose to have their proceeds credited to their mobile money wallets. In all cases however, beneficiaries would need to visit any of the bank’s branches.

The Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank (Uganda) Limited, Mr. Lekan Sanusi commented. ‘’GTBank continues to form alliances with different institutions in order to provide convenient banking solutions to all Ugandans. This partnership with Ria money is yet another step that has been taken in our bid to achieve this objective’’.

‘’Furthermore, we are a bank that is aiming at driving a cashless society in Uganda where people do not have to carry cash but rather embrace the use of digital platforms for their transactions. Towards this end, we are working on other initiatives of ensuring that direct credit to accounts without a visit to the branch even when the accounts are in other banks or mobile wallets are achieved very soon.

This partnership with Ria brings to three the number of remittance channels that are available in GTBank. GTBank had partnered with other remittance companies such as Western Union and Moneygram.
